BUXTON — The vice chairwoman of the Buxton Board of Selectman has been charged with assaulting the town’s solid waste manager.

Jean Harmon, 56, was issued a summons for assault by Saco police on Nov. 8.

Harmon allegedly assaulted Solid Waste Manager Gregory Heffernan in the town of Buxton on Oct. 3, according to documents filed at Biddeford District Court.

Saco Deputy Police Chief Jack Clements said the Saco Police Department was asked by the Buxton Police Department on Oct. 6 to investigate the matter.

Clements said police departments will typically reach out to a department in a nearby community if there is any potential conflict of interest.

Harmon is scheduled to appear in Biddeford District Court at 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 9 for an arraignment.

Harmon could not be reached for comment on Thursday.

Heffernan told the American Journal on Wednesday that under the advice of his lawyer he was not allowed to talk about the alleged incident.

Board of Selectmen Chairman Clifford Emery was unable to be reached by press time, as was Selectmen’s Assistant Krystal Dyer.

Town Clerk John Myers said on Thursday morning that Harmon remains a member of the Board of Selectman.

Harmon has been on the Select Board for 16 years, according to information from a 2017 candidate profile in the American Journal. Her current term ends in 2020.

Harmon also served four years on the town’s budget committee and is a property manager for The Barn at Flannagan Farm, a wedding and event venue.
