I must say, the 15 percent rate hike by Central Maine Power while they are under investigation by the Public Utility Commission, while there is a huge controversy over the CMP Corridor Transmission Line to Massachusetts, is very suspicious to me. Fifteen percent is a huge rate increase! Is there reason for people to ask if Maine citizens are paying for something that is of no benefit to them? Is there also an ulterior motive for this transmission corridor that Maine citizens are not being told? What exactly is the Public Utility Commission investigating? Are there any advocates for Maine citizens and electricity users?

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
