BIDDEFORD — Richard A. Martin, 71, of Biddeford, passed away early Monday morning on Dec. 31, 2018, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born in Biddeford on Feb. 28, 1947, a son of Edgar and Elizabeth (Dubois) Martin.

Earlier, Richard was employed by Biddeford Box Company for 10 years. Later, he worked for Biddeford Industries for 15 years.

Richard had a great love of animals. He raised birds and other small animals for several pet stores. He enjoyed horses and especially his talking bird Simon, which always made everyone laugh.

Mr. Martin was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.

He is survived by two children, his son Michael Martin and his wife Jordan and his daughter Jennifer Owens and her husband Shawn, grandchildren Lucy, Fletcher, Jaxon, Brody and Braden. He is also survived by two brothers Armand Martin and his wife Lynn and Gerard Martin and one sister Pauline Mohrmann and nephew Jeffrey, and nieces Shannon and Kelsey.

Visiting Hours will be 9 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St., Saco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
