DERRY, N.H. — Richard D. Vermette, 71, of Derry, New Hampshire, died Saturday Dec. 29, 2018, at Parkland Medical Center, Derry.

He was born in Sanford, Maine on Dec. 21, 1947, a son of Lionel and Gisele (Therrien) Vermette.

Richard was an avid fisherman and enjoyed wood crafting. He served in the U.S. Army and later in the National Guard. During his military service he was stationed in Alaska before being sent to Korea and then Okinawa where he met his wife, Katsuko. Following his service, he was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for over 20 years. After retirement, Richard and Katsuko moved to Clarksville, Tennessee where they enjoyed many years in the warm weather with good friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Vermette of Kennebunk, Maine; son, David Vermette and his wife Michelle of New Boston, New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Brennan, Danielle, Allyson and Nathan; brother, Leo Vermette and two sisters, Marie Wahlstrom and Claire Huff and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. Richard is predeceased by his beloved wife, Katsuko (Izena) Vermette.

Services will be held at Holy Family Church in Sanford, Maine.
