Brunswick – John Mesich, age 73 of Brunswick, died Thursday, January 3, 2019 at his residence, surrounded by his wife and children.

John was born in Laona, Wisconsin on January 25, 1945, a son of John and Mary (Yelich) Mesich. He attended schools in New Jersey and in 1962, John entered the U.S. Army. He served in Korea for three years during the Vietnam War and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Division, He earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal and was a sharpshooter.

In 1968, John entered the U.S. Marine Corps as an Infantryman. He served three tours in Vietnam and was a recipient of four Purple Heart Medals,

He was a former member of the American Legion, he enjoyed guns, reminiscing of the “old times” and talking to people. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

John lived in Brunswick since 1979 coming from Iowa.

He married Geraldine Weinberg on December 25, 2015.

He is predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Frank, Steve and John; and two sisters, Anne Brigante and Mary Lou Krenz.

John leaves behind his wife, Geraldine Weinberg-Mesich of Brunswick; two sons, John F. Mesich and his wife, Amy of Monson, ME, and Daniel G. Mesich and his wife, Mariah of Bowdoinham; one daughter, Christina “Tina” Taylor and her husband, Seth of Topsham; two step daughters, Karen Steinman and her husband, Chad of Bath, and Kimberley “Kim” Proulx and her husband, Drew of Topsham; six grandchildren, and three step grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held from 12noon to 1PM Monday, January 14, followed by a 1PM memorial service at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
