SACO — It is with sadness we announce the passing of Donald D. Lester, 84, of Scammon Street, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2019 at Southern Maine Health Care.

He was born in Biddeford April 4, 1934 the son of William and Flora Davis Lester.  He attended Saco schools and then graduated from Thornton Academy in 1953.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served three years and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

Donald served two years on the Saco City Council for Ward 7.

He was employed by the Men’s Shop for 13 years, Jordan Marsh for 23 years and then retired from LL Bean in 2002.

Donald enjoyed various hobbies and summers at Ossipee Lake in Waterboro. He also followed the sports and various activities of his four children and later his eight grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of over 60 years of marriage, Florence Bouthillette Lester of Saco; three daughters Laurie Warchol and husband Scott of Buxton, Lisa McAuliffe and husband Louis of Saco, and Lynn Conley and husband Michael of Biddeford; son William (Bill) Lester and wife Diane of Saco; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends and relatives may call at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral home 365 Main St., Thursday Jan. 17, 2019 from 4 to 6 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday,Jan. 18, 2019 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Biddeford.
