‘Skate and Glow’ invite

Westbrook Kiwanis, Westbrook High School Key Club and Westbrook Middle School Builders Club invite individuals and families to a free night of family fun.

The Friday Night Skate and Glow Night will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 18 at the rink across Stroudwater Street from the high school.

Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase along with limited skate rentals. Skaters can toast marshmallows by the bonfire while they warm up. Glow sticks to light up the ice also will be available.

Sponsors will collect non-perishable food items for the WMS and WHS food pantries.

Check the Westbrook Kiwanis Facebook page the day of the event in case of poor ice conditions.

MLK Jr. service day

The Social Justice and Peace Committee at St. Anthony’s will host a Day of Service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. from 9-11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, in the church parish hall on Brown Street.

A St. Anthony’s flyer said the civil rights leader was a man of service and “challenged each of us to be as well.”

Free services include a pancake breakfast, hair cuts, hand massages, blood pressure screening, foot care and eye screening.

Mayor at Woman’s Club

Westbrook Mayor Michael Sanphy will speak about the local historical society when GFWC Westbrook Woman’s Club meets Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Westbrook Warren Church, 810 Main St.

The meeting includes an international luncheon and a silent auction. Lunch will be served at noon and the meeting follows at 1 p.m. All women are welcome to attend.
