Brunswick – Edyth Louise (Kummerle) Smith, 86 of Brunswick passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Mid Coast Hospital. 

She was born in The Bronx, NY at home to Herman O. & Edyth K. (Osburg) Kummerle August 26, 1932. She was a graduate of Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg, NY & SUNY Potsdam, NY. She worked as a legal secretary and Direct Support Professional in an adult group home. She married Nicholas N. Smith on September 29, 1956. 

She is survived by her husband of over 62 years, Nicholas N. Smith of Brunswick; a daughter, Wanda L. (Jeffrey) Morris of Topsham; three grandchildren, James R. Morris III of Topsham, Paul N. Morris of Greenland, NH, Kimberly L. Morris of Topsham, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Herman F. Kummerle. 

She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick for over 20 years and previously St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg, NY. 

A celebration of life will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, January 26 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Brunswick, the Rev. Carolyn Eklund officiating. Interment will be in the spring at St. Paul’s Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Mid Coast Humane Society, or a charity of one’s choice.
