SACO — Martha T. Boucouvalas, 88, of Saco, was reunited with the Love of Her Life, Petro, on Sunday evening, Jan. 20, 2019, at St. Andre’s Health Care Facility, she passed away gracefully surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Biddeford on May 20, 1930, the daughter of Remie and Bertha (Thibeault) Morin.
Martha left school at a young age to help support her family. She was employed for three years at Bates Manufacturing and then Plaza Restaurant, where she met the love of her life Petro Boucouvalas. They married in 1953 and celebrated 60 years of endless love in 2013. In 1981, Martha earned her diploma from Biddeford Adult Education, with the honor of Valedictorian of her class.
Mrs. Boucouvalas loved her family, they were her life. She enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She cared for several generations of her family, her grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren and most recently spent time with her great grandchildren. Through her teachings in life, the family has created wonderful memories that they will hold on to and cherish forever. She will be sadly missed by many.
Mrs. Boucouvalas had great faith and was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Saco. She was a member of St. Fotini Ladies Society and the Sorority of Lacones.
She also liked to cook for her family, and at times the neighborhood. She enjoyed making crochet items to give away. She always thought of others and was known as Yiayia and Mom B to many children.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Petro on Aug. 13, 2013, by her parents, two sisters Rosa, Sonia and one brother Henry.
She is survived by her five children, Paula Marie Lucoff and husband James, Everett Boucouvalas and wife Lorina, Andrea Coreau and husband Andrew, Steven Petro Boucouvalas and wife Michelle, and John Boucouvalas and wife Christine. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren Andrew III and wife Joy, Nicholas, Petro II, Matthew and Michelle, Adam and wife Stephanie, Demetrios and Shannon, Lyndsay, Lauren and husband Keith, Aaron and John, as well as seven great-grandchildren Alexis, Emilio, Andrew IV, Summer, Declan, Jackson and Peter and as four sisters-in-law Mary, Theresa, Rosella and Pauline; one brother-in-law John; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Martha’s entire family would like to thank the staff of Southern Maine Hospice and Saint Andre’ Health Care for the kindness, love and compassion they extended to Martha and her family.
Visiting Hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with Trisagion Prayers at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St., Saco. A Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 186 Bradley St., Saco. Burial will follow in St. Demetrios Cemetery in Biddeford.
