LRHS academic team
moves on to nationals

Lake Region High School was the top high school team at Academic WorldQuest 2019 and will now represent Maine at the nationals in Washington, D.C., this spring.

WorldQuest is a national education program with the goal of informing and engaging high school students in global affairs. Teammates Madison Cohoon, Olivia Thompson, Andrew Gianattasio and Adam Ranco, coached by Scott Nye, competed against 14 other school teams.

Hosted at the Council on International Educational Exchange on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 120 competitors were challenged by emcee Adam Hallett to answer questions in six categories: North Korea, Space Policy, NATO, Global Migration, World Trade Organization and Current Events.

The World Affairs Council of Maine awarded the LRHS team a $4,000 travel stipend to attend the national competition and CIEE awarded each student from the winning team a $2,500 scholarship toward a CIEE High School Study Abroad program.
