Brunswick – Gerard Thomas Groel, 62, of Brunswick Maine passed away unexpectedly on Sunday January 21, 2019 at his residence.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 27, 1956 a son of Gladys E. Groel (Wynn) & George Groel. He was predeceased by both his parents, Sister Frances (Lala) Edstrom and Brother Richard Cardali Sr. Surviving are his Brother Edward J. Cardali of Brunswick, and his Sister and God mother, Patricia Ford of Florida.
Gerard attended the University Of Maine at Orono for four years then enlisted in the United States Army for 17 years as a Topographical Surveying Engineer traveling around the world. He received an Honorable discharge from the United States Army and received many awards and medals during his service.
National Defense Service MDL, Joint Meritorious Unit AWD, Joint Service Commendation MDL, Army Service RBN, Overseas Service RBN-2nd AWD, Army Good Conduct MDL-5th AWD, NCO Professional Development RBN-3D AWD, Expert Qualification Badge Rifle M16, Expert Qualification Badge Hand Grenade and the Expert Qualification Badge 45 Cal Pistol.
Internment with Military Honors will take place at Central Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in
Augusta Maine this summer.
