SAD 15

SAD 15’s budget has been completed and presented to the School Board for discussion.

The proposed Gray-New Gloucester district budget is $27.8 million, an increase of 3.98 percent, or $1.1 million, over this year’s budget.

Superintendent Craig King said, “There are no significant additions to the budget in terms of new programming or new personnel,” although “there is a recommendation that we eliminate two positions because of declining enrollment.”

The budget proposed cutting one music teacher position and one high school social studies teacher position.

King said most of the increase is due to the rising cost of health insurance as well as cost of living increases for salaries.

The board will vote on the final budget on April 10. Gray and New Gloucester residents will vote on the school budget during the election June 11.

RSU 14

RSU 14’s proposed budget is $48.3 million which is an increase of 4.85 percent, or $2.2 million, over this year’s budget.

According to Superintendent Sandy Prince, the increase is related to it being the final year of three negotiated contracts, an increase in fixed costs such as heating, increased special education costs and the addition of a lease payment for a shared maintenance facility.

Two positions are proposed to be cut: a classroom teacher at Manchester School and a community connections position.

Increases in the budget include a mini bus for special education, an increase in supplies for buildings and programs and an additional occupational therapist.
