TOPSHAM – Charles P. Christy beloved husband of Emma-Jean Christy passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on April 17, 2019.

He was born on April 7, 1936 to Peter Charles and Anna (Saba) Christy in Cambridg, Mass.

Charles graduated Cambridge Latin High School in 1953. He attended Norwich University Norhfield, Vt., graduating with the class of 1957 with a B.S. degree in business administration. In 2010 he became a Founding Member of the Partridge Society Garrison Associates- Norwich University. He served with the U.S. Army, was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant, retiring from the Army Reserve as a captain.

He met the love of life Emma-Jean Betterley at the Home Savings Bank in Boston. They we married soon after on June 5, 1960 which began a life long love affair. Charles always introduced Emma-Jean as his beloved bride.

Charles was an active member of his community. He was treasurer and trustee of the Goddard Memorial Hospital in Stoughton, Ma.,  treasurer and trustee of Brockton Junior Chamber of Commerce, treasure and director of American Red Cross (Brockton Chapter), division chairman of Old Colony United Way, worked on fund drives for Heart Fund, Boy Scouts, YMCA and his church. Director of New England League of Savings Council, president and director of Massachusetts Federal Savings Council, director of Kiwanis Club of Brockton, Mass., member of Financial Managers Society for Savings Institutions, member of Brockton Regional Chamber of Commerce, chairman (Physical Education Committee) of Brockton YMCA, Sunday school teacher, trustee of the Permanent Funds – Paul Revere Lodge , and trustee of the Trust Funds – St. Paul Church.

His impressive banking career began in 1957 as an executive trainee. He quickly rose through the ranks. He retired in 1999 as the president and CEO of Security Federal Savings Bank, Brockton, Mass. In his honor, the bank set up the Charles P. Christy Scholarship Fund at Norwich University.

Charles and his lovely bride of 59 years Emma-Jean, retired to the Highlands where they became members of the United Baptist Church of Topsham.

Charles was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Joyce Hull.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Emma-Jean Christy of Topsham; sister, Marion Christy of Belmont, Mass., sister, Helen Cannon and her husband, Woodward, of Raleigh N.C.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, April 22, at The United Baptist Church, 1 Elm St., Topsham, a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m.

Emma-Jean would like to thank the many wonderful hospice/hospital staff at Mid Coast Hospital for their excellent care of Charles. She is also forever grateful for the love and support given to her by her dear family, extended family and friends during this difficult time.
