The Kennebec Estuary Land Trust and the town of Bowdoinham to invite the public to the grand opening of Red Rose Preserve 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

Attendees can tale a guided tour of the property’s trails and learn the land’s conservation story. This is a free, family-friendly event.

Red Rose Preserve will be the first first public preserve in Bowdoinham and was protected thanks to donations from local landowners.

Land trust staff and volunteers constructed a roughly milelong loop at the property. The trail following the rolling landscape through the woods can be used by hikers, birders and walkers with leashed pets.

Red Rose Preserve, a former dairy farm, includes two hayfields, mixed forest with a perennial stream, and scrub-shrub habitat. This new preserve boasts sloping ravines, a variety of birds, and a plethora of plants and wildlife. Red Rose Preserve is located near town and school property and will be open dawn to dusk, year round.

The opening celebration will be a light-rain or shine event. RSVP at www.kennebecestuary.org or call (207) 442-8400.
