ORR’S ISLAND – Thomas H. Conway, 85, passed away on August 30, 2019. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Norma to whom he was very happily for nearly 40 years.

He is also survived by four children, Thomas Conway Jr. and his wife, Sheryl, William Conway and his wife, Linda, Susan G. Harrington, and Kathleen A. Walsh, both of Lexington, Mass.; and one stepson, Edward J. Walsh Jr. and his wife, Jane of Medford, Mass. Tom is further survived by his brother, James Toomey and his wife, Nancy of Massachusetts, and his sister, Eileen Toomey of New Hampshire. Tom leaves eight well-loved grandchildren, Jason, Carlene, Christie, William, Daniel, Leah, John and Adeline.

Tom is predeceased by his parents, Amy (DeBill) Toomey, James Toomey, and William H. Conway; and his siblings, Richard Conway, and Diane Toomey.

Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Iowa and the U.S.S. St. Paul during the Korean War.

After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Tom enjoyed a long, successful career as a chef in many parts of the country, including the French Quarter in New Orleans.

Furthermore, Tom and a colleague prepared a feast for 9,200 people attending Angus Kings First Inaugural Ball as Governor of Maine.

After retiring as a chef, Tom taught himself to weave beautiful, intricate baskets, launching a new career that he loved and which brought him great joy.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, at the Bailey Island Union Church, Route #24, Bailey Island. Interment with military honors will follow at Orr’s Island Cemetery.
