Harpswell- Dunbar N. Oehmig, age 88, died September 2, 2019 at Horizons Living and Rehabilitation Center, Brunswick.

Dunbar was born July 22, 1931 in Chattanooga, TN, the son of Edward W. and Catherine Newell Oehmig and the youngest of five children.  He was a graduate of The McCallie School and the University of Tennessee, graduating with a degree in industrial engineering in 1954.  He served his country as a pilot in the US Air Force, including a year in Japan. He married Cindy Sullivan in Chattanooga on April 10, 1959.

Dunbar was a loving, involved father who enjoyed coaching his sons’ baseball teams, family outings to the Smokey Mountains and playing with his kids. He was a caring man who demonstrated respect for everyone.

After a decade of vacationing in Maine, Dunbar and Cindy moved from Chattanooga to Brunswick, Maine in 1981. Dunbar had owned an industrial supply business in Chattanooga, but took a different direction in Maine and spent his final work years as a realtor with Morton Real Estate in Brunswick. He loved working with his customers to find the perfect house and helping sellers to showcase their property.

Dunbar enjoyed Maine and all the outdoor activities including cross-country skiing, golf, hiking and boating. He was enthusiastic about taking family and visitors out in the boat to explore the local islands and see the seals.

He was an active member of the First Parish Church, Brunswick, serving as a deacon as well as on various committees. He was devoted to the well-being of the church and his community.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cindy Oehmig of Harpswell; three sons, Dunbar Oehmig, Jr. and his wife Janet Kilburn of Burlington, VT, Keith Oehmig and his wife Cordelia of Brunswick, Kenneth Oehmig and his wife Sharon of Harpswell; a daughter, Cynthia Oehmig of Boston, MA; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Field of Centreville, Mrs. Frances Collins of Signal Mountain, TN; five grandchildren, Phoebe Oehmig, Lukas Metlicka, Milla Metlicka, Gaelan Kilburn, Greta Kilburn; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister, Mrs. Catherine Oehmig Stone, and his brother, Mr. Edward Oehmig.

At the family’s request, services will be celebrated privately.
