Topsham – Alice Azzam, 95, passed away on September 18, 2019. She was born on July 17, 1924 to Dr. Amin Audeh and Mrs. Olga Audeh of Nazareth, Palestine. She and her husband, Samih Azzam, and baby son Bahij became refugees when Israel was established in 1948, and lived in Syria, then Lebanon. In 1966 the family immigrated to the United States, making their home in Delmar, NY and Leesburg, FL. Alice moved to the Highlands in Topsham in 2016.

Throughout her life, Alice loved to create artful pieces with her hands. She was talented at sewing, knitting, crochet, quilting, Jacobean applique work, Aubusson needlepoint, and china painting. She was also an avid reader. Alice loved to host friends and family at her home who enjoyed the benefits of her vast knowledge of Arab cuisine. She was a strong woman who was devoted to family and met the difficulties of life with courage and dignity.

Alice was predeceased in 1999 by her husband Samih and son Bahij in 2017 as well as by her sisters Aida Samin (Homs, Syria) and Hilda Sickels (Des Moines, IA). She is survived by her son Fateh Azzam (Georgetown, ME); daughter Zeina Azzam (Alexandria, VA); grandchildren Rami Azzam (Washington, DC), Haneen Azzam (Toronto, Canada), Lena Seikaly (Hyattsville, MD), and Mark Seikaly (Reston, VA); great granddaughter Leila Azzam; and brothers Dr. William Audeh (Cedar Rapids, IA) and Dr. Costandi Audeh (Sun City West, AZ).
