WESTBROOK – Marilyn Moran, 86, passed away peacefully on Jan. 28, 2021 at Springbrook Center in Westbrook. She was born in Caribou on Jan. 20, 1935 to Ralph and Minnie (Rouse) Morgan.

Marilyn was a 1952 graduate of Caribou High School. She earned her teaching degree from the University of Maine Presque Isle (formerly Aroostook State Teachers College). She taught grades 3 through 8 during her 27 years in the Caribou school system. She was a member of the Maine Teachers Association (now MEA), the County Teachers Association NEA where she served as secretary for two years, and the Retired Teachers Association.

She worked as a volunteer at Cary Medical Center and was a member of the Caribou Country Club. She enjoyed golfing, cross-country skiing, walking, swimming and reading. She also had a penchant for baking and crossword puzzles and a soft spot for animals.

Known for her quick wit and friendly disposition, Marilyn endeared herself to many. She was a beloved wife, mother, nana, aunt, teacher and friend. She always remembered birthdays and anniversaries, and was known by her family as a meticulous planner and list-maker. When her children were growing up, she made holidays special with large family gatherings, homemade food and lots of laughter. She was most generous in her love for her granddaughters, Mikayla and Aoife, who she adored.

Marilyn was predeceased by her father and mother, Ralph and Minnie Morgan; sister Mavis Ramsey McClain, brother Wayne Morgan and sister-in-law Jean Morgan; and niece Debbie McClain. She is survived by her devoted husband, George Moran; her son, Kirk Moran and daughter-in-law Amy of Saco, her daughter, Lori Moran Gunn and son-in-law John Gunn of Cumberland; granddaughters Mikayla Morgan Moran of Saco and Aoife Moran Gunn of Cumberland; and nephews Ralph Ramsey and wife Linda of Alma, Ark. and Philip Wayne Morgan (“J.R.”) of Caribou.

Due to Covid-19 concerns, no services are scheduled at this time. However, the family plans to have an outdoor Celebration of Life service in Caribou for Marilyn in the late spring or early summer when her favorite flowers–lilacs and peonies–will be in bloom. She will be interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Caribou in the spring.
