ALTAVISTA, Va. – CMSGT George H. Day, 81, of Altavista, Va. passed away Feb. 18, 2021 after a brief illness. He was married to Carol Charland Day for 60 years.He was born March 22, 1939 in Portland to Robert and Winona Day. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Debra Bevins and her husband Norman of Semora, N.C., his son Robert Day and his wife Julie of Tellico Plains, Tenn., and his daughter Brenda of Altavista, Va.; a brother Edward Day and his wife Dawn of New Bern N.C., a sister Marlene Day Russell of Yarmouth, and a sister-in-law Judie Heskett Day of South Portland; grandchildren, Jason, Katherine and Lindsay Bivens and Jeffrey, Courtney and Morgan Day; two great-grandchildren, Sev Hutton and Eloise Day.In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Roger Day.George led an interesting and fulfilling life beginning as a young boy riding in the engine of a train with his grandfather, to 26 years in the military writing many policies still in use today, traveling with Carol around the United States in their RV, and finally as Dean of Curriculum and Instruction for Virginia Technical Institute.
