York County Sheriff William L. King inspects the cruiser driven by Deputy Gil Hudson on Friday, as Hudson’s son Austin looks on. Hudson retired from the agency, which patrols Arundel and several other rural communities, after 21 years of service. King said Hudson was the type of officer who sought to make people feel safe and valued in their community. After graduating from Traip Academy in Kittery, Hudson earned a law enforcement degree at Southern Maine Community College, and was a police officer in South Berwick, Buxton, and York as well as a part-time corrections officer at York County Jail before joining the patrol division. Following remarks, the Sheriff’s Office hosted a law enforcement escort to Hudson’s home.
