Adrienne Ann Flynn

FREEPORT – Adrienne Ann Flynn, 87, formerly of Cape Elizabeth, died Monday evening, Feb. 1, 2021 at The Hawthorne House in Freeport. She fought a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Adrienne was born Adrienne Ann Figari in NYC on June 29, 1933. She grew up in the era of the Great Depression but had fond memories of playing with her friends while hanging around her mother and father’s grocery/deli in Greenwich Village, N.Y. Her family was well-known in their community for their generosity in helping many families through the difficult times. “My mother and father (Ann and Tony Figari) would loan or give friends money.” Adrienne also remembered her mother telling her later in life that Eleanor Roosevelt, Errol Flynn, and Joe DiMaggio had shopped at their store.

Adrienne’s family eventually moved from NYC to Oceanside Long Island where she graduated from Oceanside High. After attending Berkeley School of Business and graduating, she moved to Manhattan to take a job as an Assistant Print Buyer at the Ted Bates Advertising Agency. She worked there for years but after the city grind decided to start a family back in Oceanside where she gave birth to two children, Ellen and Matt.

In 1968 Adrienne’s family moved to Cape Elizabeth, where she lived for over 40 years. Some of her favorite things to do were to play bridge with Patty, Sue and other friends; hang out with the kids and other families at Crescent Beach; and sit for countless hours at the ball fields and gymnasiums watching her kids in sports. She also loved having a house full of friends and family. But before all this, Adrienne was quite the athlete in her day. She was a standout in softball and basketball in her high school years and also enjoyed downhill skiing with her family later in life. She learned to ski at Belaire Mountain in the Catskills of New York while staying at her parent’s lodge close by – it was there she really found a love to schuss the slopes.

Eventually, Adrienne got back into the workforce working at Landmarks in Portland, worked for a period of time at Wolfe Ford and Brooks and Brooks accounting, and ending her career working for another CPA firm, Albin, Randall and Bennett. She loved interacting with people. Getting to know individuals by listening to their concerns and trying to make them feel comforted was her trademark. She was a selfless individual who put her children and grandchildren’s lives ahead of her own. Her family and their health and security were all that mattered. And of course her beloved pooches and grand pooches: Ralph, Alfie, Riley, Bucky, Murph, Tillie, Bailey and Zoie were also loved and cared for.

Adrienne is survived by her daughter, Ellen Hutchinson, son Matthew Flynn; five grandchildren, Christopher Hutchinson, Sean Hutchinson, Kevin Hutchinson, Brendan Flynn and Abigael Flynn; four great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Glenn Hutchinson and daughter-in-law, Marnie Flynn.

A memorial service andcelebration of life will be scheduled some time this year when it is safe once again to gather.
