SCARBOROUGH – In the early morning of March 1, 2021, James “Jim” passed away peacefully in his sleep and joined his wife Peggy in Heaven.

Jim was born in Lowell, Mass. in 1936, joined the navy at 17, and married his sweetheart Doris “Peggy” Eno in 1955. They shared five children and 58 years of marriage.

He began his career in engineering at Raytheon in Massachusetts, then moved to Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland. While in Maine, he began his career in real estate as a broker. He and Peggy would later move to Las Vegas in 1976, where he would eventually become president of the Las Vegas Board of Realtors in 1988 and be appointed by the governor to the Nevada Real Estate Commission. Jim and Peggy remained in Las Vegas until 2004, when they returned to South Portland to retire.

Jim was preceded by Peggy in 2015; and his son-in-law, Mark Thibeault in 2007.

He is survived by his daughters, Jayme Upton and her husband Allen, Carrie Whitworth and her husband Joe Brizeno, and Tammy Thibeault, as well as his sons, James V. Whitworth III and his wife Debbie, and Joseph Whitworth and his wife Patsy. He also had 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He spent his last two years at the Maine Veterans Homes in Scarborough. Our family wishes to thank all the staff in Unit A who cared for our father especially Alison, Allie, Chrisanna, Alexa and many many more. We could not have been more pleased with his care.
