Peter Schultz

SANFORD – Peter Schultz, 75, died Saturday, March 20, 2021 bringing to an end a life of exploration, curiosity, excitement, and above all, love of friends and family. A graduate of Sanford High School (’65), Pete began a long career as a ship-fitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he worked on nuclear submarines. While he wasn’t a fan of the mandated respirator training because it required that he shave off his signature beard, what meant the most to him were the life-long friendships that were formed at the ‘yard’. He was known as a craftsman, both at work and home, and he was proud of the very intricate woodworking pieces that he gave to family, friends, and neighbors.Pete lived for adventure, being outdoors, and planning trips throughout all of Maine, New England, and Canada. Many of his fondest times were spent with family and friends paddling down a river, snowmobiling, boating in Casco Bay, and driving cross country. Those who knew him also knew he loved food, especially lobster and seafood eaten with loved ones on the Kennebunkport breakwater.Peter will be most fondly remembered by his children, Peggy (Steve) Robinson and Derek Schultz; grandchildren, Vicktoria, Alexia, James, Connor, Lyla, Gabrielle, and Jakob; brother William (Judith) Schultz Jr.; nieces Stephanie Schultz and Christine Schultz; along with his faithful companion and beloved dog Toto. Peter was predeceased by his parents William and Amy (King) Schultz.Per Peter’s wishes, a small, private Celebration of Life service will be held in the summer. Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes of Sanford and Springvale. To Peter’s memorial page, or to share an online condolence, please visit http://www.BlackFuneralHomes.com.
