Verlin K. “Scotty” Scott, 85, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Friday, April 9.

He was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Houghton, Kansas, to Gladden E. and Ethel M. (Downing) Scott.

Verlin enrolled in the U.S. Air Force. He was sent to Japan and also the Philippines for several months, then on to Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire. This is where he met and fell in love with his wife, Laura E. Knight. They married in December 1959 and raised their three children Kathy, Dennis and Susan.

Verlin was a tool and die maker by trade and worked for several local businesses, including Morningstar (Corning), Shape and Nichols.

Traveling was a great passion for Verlin, he would spend every vacation on the road in his motorhome and had visited all 50 states.

Verlin was predeceased by his wife, Laura, sister Linda S. Caldwell and brother Carl Scott.

His survivors include daughter Kathy Walsh and her husband Carl; son Dennis Scott and his wife, Tammy; and daughter, Susan Whitehead, and her husband, Michael. Seven grandchildren, Michael Pimpare, Michelle Wakefield, Joshua Huff, Dylan Scott, Curtis Huff, Zachary Scott and Laura Huff; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Verlin also leaves his significant other Laura Smith.

His family will receive friends Tuesday, April 13, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 14, 11 a.m. at Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.
