Alexis J. Kasny

SCARBOROUGH – Alexis J. Kasny passed away peacefully on April 10, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born July 12, 1958 in Aosta, Italy. He lived in an orphanage until the age of 3 when he was adopted by Matthew and Gloria Kasny in 1961. He was raised in Bellmore, N.Y. graduating from Calhoun High School in 1977.

After high school he joined the Navy working as a welding inspector and traveled around the world, some of his favorite locations included Australia, Japan, and Hawaii. While stationed in San Diego he met the love of his life Michelle (LeComte) who had just moved there from Maine with friends. They were married in 1984 and moved to Maine to raise two beautiful girls, Elizabeth and Theresa.

Alex continued his service with the National Guard Engineers retiring in 1999. He was also a volunteer firefighter in the towns he lived in, one of his most memorable experiences was when living in Cape Porpoise he had the privilege of driving a vintage 1948 Seagrave ladder truck. Alex worked in the trucking industry for many years, retiring as a safety manager. He cared deeply for the people he worked with, always looking for ways to make their day better.

Alex loved carpentry work; he had just finished renovating the last room of his farmhouse when he was diagnosed with cancer last year. He was always helping others, whether it was a carpentry project, fix-it problem, or just being there for one of his family members or friends, he never hesitated. His house and heart were always open, everyone was welcome. His sense of humor will be sorely missed, he could make anyone smile.

Family was very important to him, he loved being a Dad and especially loved being a Papa to his grandkids, Sophia, Huxley, and Thomas. He was always finding ways to spend time with them, whether it was playing Legos or tag, he wanted to be with them. He was so happy to have his sons-in-law Jon and Sam, they were like sons to him.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Michelle; daughter Elizabeth Sundborg and her husband Sam, Theresa Call and her husband Jon; grandchildren Sophia, Huxley, and Thomas. He is further survived by his sister, MaryEllen Kasny, brother-in-law, Ray LeComte and his wife Jennifer Jortberg, sister-in-law, Jeanne Durocher and her husband Robert; mother-in-law, Anna LeComte; and his nieces and nephews, Curran, Dylan, Molly, Sarah, and Jason. Alex loved his nieces and nephews like his own. His generosity, kindness, and caring for others will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 1 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at New England Cancer Specialists and Hospice of Southern Maine for their care and compassion.
