Donald Francis Cipriano

PORTLAND – Donald F. Cipriano, 72, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 12 2021.

Donald was born in Portland in March of 1949, he was the youngest son of Anthony and Gladys Cipriano.

Growing up in Portland, Donald attended Portland High School and graduated in 1968. During this time, he would meet and eventually marry the love of his life, Gayle Cipriano. They were constant companions in life and work and were married for 47 wonderful years. They eventually found their forever home in Westbrook where Don would go on to own his own bakery and serve his community as a Reserve Police Officer for the Westbrook Police Department, which he would retire from 25 years later.

At the same time as the WPD, Don also worked for Bradlees as the Director of Loss Prevention and Security, and had many stories about catching the bad guys. Don ended his career after working 20 years at The Curtainshops of Maine, where he found his work family, and a special bond with the owners.

When he wasn’t working, Don enjoyed spending time with his family, he was always with his grandson Chance, working in his backyard. He especially loved getting together with neighbors and family for summertime BBQs. In the last few months, he’s loved spending the mornings with his big brother, Tony. He will fondly be remembered by his family, friends and co-workers for being a family man with a legendary sense of humor, quick wit, and an all-around great man. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He was truly one of the best!

Don is survived by his daughter, Dawn Gagne and her husband Keith of Westbrook; his grandson, Chance Gagne of Westbrook; his brother, Anthony Cipriano and wife Daneen of Limerick, his sisters Shirley Cipriano, Jane Haskell, Judy Campbell and Joann Cipriano of Westbrook, and his sister, Bonnie Cockrum and husband Logan of Kingwood, Texas; along with many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife, Gayle Cipriano; and parents Anthony and Gladys Cipriano.

Per Don’s request, there will be a small family graveside service at Brooklawn Memorial Park.
