Bath honors emergency management personnel

The city of Bath formally recognized individual officers and its entire police and fire and rescue departments last month.

Officer Devin Hook, Officer Ryan Kaake and Sgt. Daniel Couture received the Superior Performance Commendation bar, according to City Manager Peter H. Owen in a prepared release, and Sgt. Nathan Gould, Sgt. Michelle Small and Officer Brett McIntire received merit awards.

In recognition of the entire police department’s efforts during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, Chief Michael Field also awarded every officer and civilian employee the Officer and Employee of the Year awards.

The Maine Medical Center Division of EMS recognized three Bath Fire & Rescue Department clinicians for going “above and beyond” in their exceptional care and professionalism for a recent patient. Deputy Chief Christopher Cummings presented Paramedic Benjamin Huebler, Paramedic Robert Chandler and Advanced EMT Shawn Latulippe with Certificates of Recognition and Commendation on March 4.

“I would also like to note the retirement of Firefighter Doug Watson, who served the city for 25 years,” Owen said. “On behalf of the city of Bath, I extend thanks to Firefighter Watson for his commendable service to our community and wish him well in retirement.”

Owen also congratulated Officer Michael Jones and Officer Arthur Tringali, who recently graduated from the Maine Police Academy.

Hancock Lumber announces acquisition

Hancock Lumber has announced plans to acquire Lapointe Lumber, a fourth-generation building materials supplier that’s operated in the Augusta and Gardiner markets since 1947. Established in 1848, Hancock Lumber is a seventh-generation, integrated forest products company.

“Lapointe has a long-standing family-business legacy of integrity and quality,” Hancock CEO Kevin Hancock said. “The company represents the essence of what’s best about doing business in Maine.”

Hancock Lumber has nine lumberyard locations in Maine, including Brunswick, Yarmouth and Saco.

Expansion brewing in Freeport

Mast Landing Brewing Company, based in Westbrook, will open a 11,000-square-foot space at Freeport Crossing this summer, the company recently announced. The new space will span two floors and be outfitted with a tasting room and a pilot brewing facility, as well as one of the largest event spaces in the area.

Recognition

The New England Railroad Club Executive Committee has awarded Patricia Quinn, executive director of the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority, with the Vincent R. Terrill Lifetime Achievement Award for her exemplary commitment to passenger rail service in New England and beyond.

In her role as the executive director since 2005, Quinn has led development of the Amtrak Downeaster passenger rail service between Brunswick, Maine, and Boston, Massachusetts.

Verrill attorney Gregory Fryer was recognized as a top author for finance and banking in JD Supra’s 2021 Readers Choice Awards. The top 10 authors were selected for each category from a pool of more than 14,000 authors writing on financial service and banking matters in 2020.

Fryer wrote a number of articles on Paycheck Protection Program loan forgiveness, including his top article, “PPP Loan Forgiveness: Further Guidance on the Math,” published on April 13, 2020. This article was read more than 113,000 times across platforms.

The Boulos Company, based in Portland, congratulates Chelsea Britten for winning the Most Valuable Boulian Award. Britten joined The Boulos Company as an executive assistant in 2019 after working at Boulos Asset Management as an assistant asset manager for three years.

Hires, promotions, appointments

Dale Carnegie Maine, which is headquartered in Scarborough, is pleased to announce that Violetta Obarewicz has joined the team as an executive assistant/social media coordinator. Obarewicz is a Polish writer and photographer who joined the company in January after beating over 60 qualified applicants.
