Virginia Paul

BIDDEFORD — Mrs. Virginia Jean Paul, 89, of Biddeford, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, following an extended illness.

Virginia was born Nov. 7, 1931, in Portland, Maine, to Mr. Eugene Shaffer and Mrs. Margaret Stover Shaffer. She attended Cathedral High School in Portland where she graduated Salutatorian of the Class of 1949.

Virginia married Harvey R. Paul at St. Dominic’s Church in Portland on Jan. 2, 1950. They moved to Biddeford where she and Harvey raised their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren until his passing in 2012. She was immensely proud of her large family and adored all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who called her “Gigi”.

Virginia was an avid reader and fed the birds daily. She was a huge Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots fan, often watching games with family. She loved to cook, especially baking. She was an amazing cook and there was always room at the table for anyone and everyone. She always loved to sing and is now “Singing with the Angels”.

Virginia is preceded in death by: her parents, Eugene and Margaret Stover Shaffer; husband of 62 years, Harvey R. Paul Sr.; son, Vincent Paul; daughter, Margaret Paul; and sisters, Alice and Fran.

Virginia is survived by: her sons, Anthony Paul (Claire) of Biddeford, Andrew Paul (Priscille) of Biddeford, Harvey R. Paul Jr. (Janet) of Windham, Bradley Paul (Laura) of Saco, and Christopher Paul of Biddeford; daughter-in-law, Daretta of Windber, Pennsylvania; daughters, Naomi Pelletier (Roland) of Biddeford, Anna Morissette (Roland) of Biddeford, Mary Petit (David) of Saco, and Virginia McCrory (Michael) of Biddeford; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank St. Andre’s Healthcare Facility for the outstanding are she received over the past few years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Tuesday April 20, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel. To share condolences online, please visit www.HopeMemorial.com.
