WINDHAM – Orlando D. Lancia, 96, of Windham, formerly of Portland, passed away peacefully in his home on the lake May 8, 2021. Orlando was born in Portland, Maine to Bernada (Gazzaloni) and Pietro Lancia on Nov. 3, 1924. He was a lifelong communicant of Saint Peter’s Church.

He graduated from Portland High School and was an ardent sports fan, especially the Yankees. Shortly after high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Seaman First Class in World War II. He served 35 months on the L.S.T. 290 making multiple trips across the English Channel. He was a survivor of the Normandy Invasion. After the war ended, he returned home to his family. He worked at the Portland Press Herald as a type setter. For many years he was a guard at Brunswick NAS. He retired in 1982 after a long career with the USPS as a City Letter Carrier and enjoyed a lengthy retirement.

He married the love of his life, Carmela L. (DiSanto) Lancia, on June 12, 1949, in Portland. They continued to live and raised their family there for 60 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending summers at the lake, going on trips to see extended family and Sunday dinners with his family.

Orlando is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carmela Lancia; his parents, Bernada and Pietro Lancia; his brother Rocco; his sisters Pasqualina, Maria, Teresina, Josephine, Nancy, Thomasina.

Orlando is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Lancia of Windham, his daughter, Julie (Lancia) Semprebon and her husband Michael of Clarksville, N.H..; his four grandchildren, Daniel, Amanda, Jessica, Joshua; his nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Benedetto Lancia and his wife Joan of Portland; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 p.m., on Friday, May 14, 2021, at A. T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 15, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church 72 Federal Street. Burial with Military Honors will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
