Sally A. Hunter

SCARBOROUGH – Sally A. Hunter, 62, of Portland, passed away on May 7, 2021, after a courageous, hard-fought, battle with cancer.

Sally was born in Portland to James E. and Marietta Loomis Hunter. She was raised in Falmouth, and was a graduate of Falmouth High School in 1977.

She spent time in Hawaii and Florida after high school. She loved the beach. Upon her return to Maine, she attended Pierre’s Beauty School and Mansfield Beauty School, both in Portland. She owned her own hair salon for a few years.

She then decided to go into skin care, and worked for many years at Macy’s, first for Clinique, and most recently for Bobbi Brown. She truly loved her work at Macy’s, and would become very connected to all of her clients over her many years of skin consultation.

She met the love of her life, husband Michael S. Litman, and they were together for 36 years, until his passing on May 23, 2019. Sally and Michael enjoyed rescuing cats, and their home became a refuge for many strays and rescues over the years. These cats were much like their children. She was an avid reader, and she and Michael also enjoyed traveling.

Sister-in-law Marcy Litman warmly remembers Sally as “classy and kind. She had a huge heart and was always grateful for everything.”

Ruth (Smith) Martin, her closest friend of 55 years, fondly remembers Sally “as the most compassionate, courageous, humorous cat-lover, whose smile spread to everyone she met. As kids, we enjoyed playing tennis on the clay courts, sunbathing under the ocean sun, and sharing secrets and laughs w each other. She will be dearly missed by so many friends, clients, and family members.”

Sally passed away peacefully with her sister-in-law/caretaker, Marcy Litman, and close friends, by her side. She was predeceased by her mother Marietta, her sister Alyson Hunter, and her husband Michael Litman. She is survived by numerous family and friends. Following Sally’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
