Nancy N. Flaherty

FALMOUTH – Nancy N. Flaherty, 77, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 12, 2021. Affectionately known by her family in recent years as “Mimi”, Nancy loved when her family was together and was happiest when surrounded by her husband Tom, their four kids and spouses, and five grandchildren.

Nancy was born in Portland in 1944 to Ralph and Barbara Roderick. She met Tom as a teenager, and they wasted no time starting a family in 1963. With three young children at home, Nancy went through college and nursing school, becoming a nurse practitioner and spending much of her career with Southern Coastal Family Planning and serving the homeless population in the City of Portland’s Public Health division. She took pride in caring for the most vulnerable populations, and always prioritized caring for others over herself. Nancy was generous, loving, opinionated, direct, and one of a kind.

Nancy is survived and deeply missed by her husband, Thomas S. Flaherty Jr. of Falmouth; son, Thomas III of Yarmouth, son, Todd and wife Dawn of Falmouth, daughter, April Kearney and husband Michael of Cumberland, son, Adam and wife Sarah of York; brother, Jon Roderick and wife Carol of Portland, brother, Fred Roderick of West Palm Beach, Fla.; grandchildren Blake and Brooke Flaherty, John Kearney, and Summer and Erin Flaherty; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.

She was an avid yard-saler for decades, and in her retirement she loved attending shows at the Ogunquit Play House (particularly Jersey Boys), and she found great joy in scouring for the best tickets when Bon Jovi was playing anywhere in New England.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be announced at a later date.
