BOYS
Henry Hart and Matt Adey, Waynflete tennis: Hart, a junior, and Adey, a sophomore, won the Western Maine Conference doubles tournament Saturday over a field of 15 from eight different schools. In the final, Hart and Adey defeated Flyers teammates Henry Moore and John Moon-Black, 6-0, 6-2.
Andrew Heffernan, South Portland baseball: The sophomore pitched a one-hit, 10-0 shutout Saturday against Bonny Eagle and ended the game via the 10-run rule in the sixth inning with his RBI single. Heffernan also went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI in 13-0 win against Deering. South Portland (7-1) has won four straight by shutout.
Sean Lyne, Brunswick lacrosse: A senior attackman, Lyne scored seven goals in a 14-8 win against previously unbeaten Messalonskee (7-1) in a matchup between two of the top teams in Class B. Brunswick improved to 6-1 entering Monday’s game against Morse.
Tyler Patterson, Brunswick track: A senior, Patterson ran the 1,500 meters in 3 minutes, 56.09 seconds at a meet in New Jersey. He also owns the state’s best times this season in the 1,600 and 3,200.
Landon Schwartzman, Kennebunk baseball: A junior, Schwartzman threw a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts against Traip Academy on Tuesday.
GIRLS
Alyvia Caruso, Gorham track: Caruso, a junior, won the long jump and both hurdles races, and was on the winning 1,600-meter relay team in a home meet against Falmouth. Her time of 47.69 seconds in the 300 hurdles is the best in the state this year.
Jess Dow, Thornton Academy softball: The sophomore third baseman hit a grand slam in the top of the eighth inning to lift the Trojans to a 9-3 victory over Scarborough, ending the Red Storm’s 66-game winning streak, in the first game of a doubleheader. She had four hits in the second game, a 9-7 Scarborough win.
Marissa LeFevre and Avery Quinn, Falmouth tennis: Both juniors, LeFevre and Quinn emerged from a field of 28 teams to win the SMAA doubles tournament Saturday. Seeded third, LeFevre and Quinn knocked off the No. 2 seed (Kennebunk) in the semifinals and the No. 1 seed (Thornton Academy) in the finals, both in straight sets.
Caitlin Noiles, Westbrook softball: The junior pitcher struck out 14 and allowed just five hits and two walks to help the Blue Blazes hand Biddeford its first loss on Saturday. She also had a home run, triple, single and two RBI in the game.
Laura Ryer, Cape Elizabeth lacrosse: The senior midfielder scored three late goals to help the Capers hand Freeport its first loss, 9-8, on Saturday. Ryer had four goals in the game and broke a 5-5 tie with her second goal of the game. She then scored two more to give the Capers a 9-6 lead.
