Alvin B. Hiscock

SCARBOROUGH – Alvin B. Hiscock, 76, a resident of Scarborough, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021, at his home. He was born May 23, 1944, in Lewiston, the son of Burton Hiscock and Dorothy (Gammon) Hiscock. He was a 1962 graduate of Leavitt Institute in Turner.

Allie proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He worked for International Paper Company until 1987. He was a member of the United States Trotting Association.

As a younger man he enjoyed adventures with friends and cousins. These adventures may or may not have included evading the local law. Allie’s love for all animals shined through wherever he went he could be found feeding them. From wild turkeys to horses, no animal went hungry around Al.

As a respected owner and trainer in the harness horse racing circuit, his hard working ethics and unforgettable personality were well known, especially at Scarborough Downs and Cumberland. He was a fierce competitor on the race tracks. You would have to work hard to beat Al. Over the years he grew many friendships that became like family to him.

During a horse incident, he became severely injured and two of his friends opened their homes to him while he recovered. Many thanks to both Scott Farley and Christine Ohman of Lyman, for taming that stallion for a few minutes. The last few years, he began his day at the barn, where he boarded his beloved “Carl’s Glory”. He would proudly be riding shotgun in the dump truck doing daily deliveries with his friend, Les Leighton. This filled his days with peace and purpose, as well as his belly with loving lunches and meals packed from Mrs. Vicki Leighton and her family. The last few months he endured intense radiation treatments for the return of stage four lung cancer. He had fully completed the last treatments just days before his sudden passing at home.

He is survived by his daughters Allison Brook of Olympic, Calif., Jennifer Pooler of New Sharon, Allicca Torres-Quirion of Hodgdon; his brothers Sherman and his wife Tilly of Arizona, Frank and his wife Susan of Livermore, his sisters Sylvia Brophy and her husband Richard of Livermore and Sandra Milano of Massachusetts.

He was predeceased by his brother, Phillip Hiscock.
