Debra “Deb” Barber

SACO – Debra “Deb” Barber, 70, of Saco passed away peacefully at her home in Saco on Thursday, May 27, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Deb was born in Thief River Falls, Minn. on April 22, 1951. She attended schools in Two Harbors, Minn., and after graduation she and her mom relocated to Seattle where she met and later married her husband, Robert. Bob and Deb shared 46-plus years together and he stayed by her side throughout.

Deb was a stay-at-home mom while their two sons were growing up. She reentered the work force in retail, first in Marietta, Ga., and then when the Barbers returned to Maine in 1996, she worked at Perkins Cove in Ogunquit. Later, she was the counter manager for Clinique at Filenes, a manager at Brookstone, and finally working and retiring from the Baby Boutique at Maine Medical Center. She always said she had the best job in the hospital as she got to rent breast pumps to the new moms!

Deb was a huge Boston Red Sox fan, hardly ever missing a broadcast, her favorite player by far was Xander Bogaerts. She always rooted for him on the diamond. As with a typical New England sports fan, she was not happy with 2020, but liked what she saw so far in 2021.

After retiring in 2016, Bob and Deb did a lot of traveling, mostly to the Caribbean and all along the Maine coast. Her favorite destination by far were their trips to Aruba. The two have visited nearly every year since their first trip together in 2003.

Debra is survived by her husband of almost five decades, Robert “Bob” Barber and their two sons, Michael (Shannon) Barber of Wells and Jason (Christina) Barber of Dayton; her grandchildren Lauren, Jon, Ava, and Chloe. She is also remembered by her sister, Gayle (Dave) and a brother, Larry, both reside in Two Harbors, Minn.

A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, June 3 at Hope Memorial Chapel from 4 to 6 p.m. with a private graveside service to follow.
