Irene K. (Jackson) Morgan

HOLLIS – Irene K. (Jackson) Morgan, 78, of Hollis, died peacefully in her daughter and son-in-law’s home after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis and heart disease.

Irene was born in Portland on May 22, 1943 to Frank and Margaret (Thurlow) Jackson. Irene worked for Fairchild’s, Cedar, but spent most of her career at Maine Medical Center/Nordex. Irene retired from Nordex after 35 years as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. Irene was the staple of the Out Patient desk. Patients always said they didn’t love to come to the lab, but enjoyed talking with her.

Irene was much more than an assistant, she also organized, cooked, sewed and planned many celebrations and award recognition parties. Her favorite was the annual themed Halloween contest where she made decorations and costumes for the lab employees to wear each year. Irene’s family was everything to her.

She spent all her free time with her husband, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and best friend, Jane Miles. Irene and husband Wayne lived in Naples for 35 years prior to moving to Hollis. Irene loved spending time at the Wynn family camp on Sebago Lake each summer. Irene loved to traveled around Maine taking pictures of lighthouses and shopping with her husband.

Irene is predeceased by her father, Frank Jackson, mother, Margaret Jackson, Robert Jackson, sister Pauline Jackson, brother-in-law Tomas Gouveia all of Rhode Island; stepdaughter Julie Morgan; best friend Jane (Shaw) Miles of Yarmouth; and brotherS-in-law Byron Morgan of South Portland and Richard Morgan of Bailey’s Island, sister-in-law, Barbara (Morgan)Thurlow of Florida and Jean (Morgan) McCarthy of South Portland.

Irene is survived by her husband, Wayne Morgan of Hollis; daughter, Laura (Shaw) Vickery and husband Arnold of Hollis, stepdaughter, Cheryl (Morgan) Freeman and husband Rick of Westbrook; granddaughters Chelsea Freeman and Ashleigh Vickery, grandson, Tyler Vickery; brother, Frank “Sonny” Jackson and wife Gloria of Providence, R.I., sister, Millie (Jackson) Gouveia of Providence, R.I. and Hazel (Jackson) Delomba and husband George of Pawtucket, R.I.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday July 3, at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St.
