Abigail Nyhan

PORTLAND – It is with great sadness that the family of Abigail Nyhan, 66, announces her passing on Dec. 12, 2021, while under hospice care.

On Jan. 19, 1955, Abby was born in New Haven, Conn. She was the youngest of three children to Dr. William Leo and Christine (Murphy) Nyhan. The family moved to La Jolla, Calif. in 1969. Four years later she graduated from La Jolla High School.

While growing up – Abby, along with her siblings, would spend the summer months with their maternal grandparents, Cliff and Marcia Murphy’s Casino Beach home in Cape Elizabeth. It was during these summer months that Abby forged lifelong friendships and a love of Maine’s coast. Abby attended S.D. Performing Arts for Ballet, accomplished a B.S. in Psychology from the University of California Santa Cruz and a M.S. from Portland’s Nursing School. She worked professionally using all degrees.

Abby is survived by her father at 95 years old; brother, Chris; nieces Monique Stahl and Ellora Nyhan, nephew, Brendan Nyhan; long-time true and dedicated companion, Keith Fitzell; and George the cat.

Abby was predeceased by her mother; and older sister, Vicki.

Abby had seen “fire and rain.” Rest easy Abby – you’ve earned it. Abigail will be forever in our hearts and minds. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
