Minister welcomed to First Congregational Church

The Rev. Kelli Whitman began working as the new interim minister at the New Gloucester First Congregational Church Jan. 16, serving alongside the Rev. Linda Gard through March.

Whitman is a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ. Having grown up in central Pennsylvania, she graduated from Susquehanna University with a Bachelor of Arts in communications. After college, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri, to attend Eden Theological Seminary. She moved to Maine in 2010 and has been serving churches in the Cumberland Association ever since.

Whitman resides in Saco with her husband Bryan and daughter Abigail. In her free time, she enjoys baking, working on arts and crafts projects and listening to pop-culture podcasts.

Historical slide show, meeting

A special slide show will be shown at the annual meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society, to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road, next to the Town Hall. All members are urged to attend to also hear the presentation of reports; refreshments will be served.

Veterans monument deadline

To have a name engraved on the New Gloucester Veterans Monument or to purchase an engraved brick, a completed application or order form must be received by Feb. 28. Forms can be accessed at newgloucester.com under the New Gloucester Veterans Monument web page, requested by emailing ngveteransmonument@gmail.com or picked up at Town Hall.

Winter sand

The public sand pile for New Gloucester residents only is located at 611 Lewiston Road, to the left of the fire station as you drive onto the property. There is a limit of two 5-gallon buckets of sand per trip. This sand is not intended for nonresidents or for commercial use. Call Public Works Director Ted Shane at 926-4574 for more information.
