William I. York

BUXTON – William I. York, 83, of Buxton, passed away peacefully on Feb. 3, 2022.

He was born in Buxton on April 13, 1937, a son of the late William E. and Martha (Cousins) York.

For 33 years, William was employed at S.D. Warren as a cutter/presser. He was also an accomplished carpenter throughout his working years as well.

He enjoyed square dancing, camping, woodworking, and being with his family.

William was predeceased by his sister, Marion Davis.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Phyllis (Legere) York; children David W. York and his significant other Diana Hicks of Findlay, Ohio, Jeffrey A. York and his wife Gail of Buxton, and Lisa Thomas and her husband Kevin of Buxton; brother, Everett York of Gorham; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday Feb. 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Rd. (Route 22) in Buxton. A service to celebrate William’s life will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Grace Bible Church, 74 Deering Rd., in Gorham. Burial will be in the spring at South Buxton Cemetery.
