Lucien Solime Corbeil

SACO – Lucien Solime Corbeil, 74, of Saco, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Feb. 9, 2022.

Lucien was born on Oct. 9, 1947 to Solime Corbeil and Florence Precourt in Biddeford. In his youth he worked with his father as a lumberjack and his sister, Florence on her farm.

He spent most of his working life on his passion of automobile repair. Over the years he worked locally at several auto repair shops inclusive of his brother Ovide’s. “Lou” or “Louie” as he was known by most at the shops, was a friend, mentor, or father figure to those he worked with. He happily passed along his love and knowledge of cars to others. He was always there to help a friend or family member with his expertise, often spending his ‘off’ hours working to repair their vehicles at no cost.

Shortly after marriage to his wife, Donna, Lucien purchased a one-room cabin without power or plumbing, moved it onto his land, and together with their own hands, and a lot of love, built it into the existing home. The initial cabin was nothing more than his current kitchen, which was always open to family and friends for a home cooked meal or a spirited discussion over beer.

Most important to Lucien was the large family that he raised in his home. As the family grew over the years via their own marriages, Lucien welcomed his additional sons, daughters, and kids into the family. Lucien always made his extended family feel as one, and they would often gather at his home to enjoy a beer, some barbeque, or a holiday meal.

In his later years Lucien could often be found in his garden, transitioning his green thumb, to one of his grandkids. If he wasn’t in his garden you’d often find him with a phone to his ear, chatting with a member of the family. He loved his frequent visits and conversations with his sister Sylvia, who he’d often speak with 2-3 times per day. None in the family ever left a visit with him without knowing the love he had for them. His love for family made his home the family gathering spot until the day he passed.

Lucien was predeceased by his parents Solime and Florence Corbeil; his sisters Pauline Corbeil, Florence Picard, Marie Daughters, and Rita LeHoux, his brothers Solime Jr. Corbeil and Paul Corbeil; and his grandson, D.J. Thurlow.

He is survived by sister, Sylvia Bourget, his brother, Ovide Corbeil; his former wife and lifelong partner, Donna Corbeil; his daughters Shirley Prescott, Shelley Gelinas, Sherry Corbeil, Sharon Corbeil, Christina Thurlow, Satomi Corbeil, his sons Lucien Corbeil, Dan Prescott, Don Gelinas, Dave Thurlow, Brian Romage; his grandkids Tyler Prescott, Amanda Thurlow, Sarah Schortmann, Emily Gelinas, Jhade Romage, Dean Corbeil, Alex Thurlow, Abbey Gelinas, Sakura Corbeil, Keegan Rhomage; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at Hope Memorial Chapel in Biddeford on Saturday, Feb. 12. Visitation will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m., and the memorial service from 3:30 to 4 p.m., both will be at Hope Memorial. The burial will be immediately following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford. The family asks that masks be worn at the visitation and memorial.

Please send any funeral arrangements in care of Lucien Corbeil to Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St, Biddeford, ME 04005.
