Harold James Jara

BRUNSWICK – Harold James Jara passed peacefully in his home in Brunswick on the evening of Feb. 10, 2022; he was 65 years young. Born to Walter and Alice Jara, he was raised a proper Chicagoland catholic, graduating Fenwick High School in 1975 and awarded a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1979. Harold’s cup of life was filled with the best experiences on offer. He once ‘borrowed’ Walter’s car from the golf course only to crash it half a mile away during the ensuing joyride. His college experience included a year studying abroad in Austria, which strongly influenced Harold throughout his life. He ran marathons across the country and passed this love to his children. He learned to fly just in time to realize it was a dangerous hobby. And to the very end of his life he was an avid golfer and skier. Whether it was scouts, soccer or baseball he was a deeply dedicated father-coach, encouraging his children to seize the world in front of them. Harold is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children Zach, Ryan and Holly, daughters-in-law Ashley and Claire; and three grandchildren, Walt, Benjamin and Callaway. He is additionally survived by his ex-wife, Nancy; and his siblings Paul, Cynthia and Arlene; and many, many nieces and nephews. A public Celebration of Life service will be held at First Parish Church of Gorham, 1 Church St., Gorham, ME 04038 on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. A second Celebration of Life will be planned for Chicago in this upcoming summer.
