Donald R. Brackett

SHAPLEIGH – Donald R. Brackett, 75, of Shapleigh, formerly of Saco, passed away at home Feb. 12, 2022 following a period of declining health. Donald was born April 7, 1946, in Portland, the son of Robert Clifton and Rita Brulotte Brackett, and attended Saco Schools. Leaving school early to work, Donald held many jobs, but most prominently worked with Maremont Corp in Saco for 20 years before an injury required him to change employers. Working in Pepperell Mills, he operated the drying roller on 3rd shift for 15 years before he retired.Donald loved to spend time centered around family gatherings that included good food and drink, and a campfire. For many years, as his family was growing, he and his wife Yvonne were scout leaders in Saco. He also loved to hunt and fish, was self-taught in many of the activities he participated in, especially photography in which he operated his own darkroom and developed beautiful pictures. More recently, he delved into coin collecting, taking trips to shows and finding quality examples of coins along the way. As a lover all animals, his home was filled with many dogs and cats over the years, and it wasn’t uncommon to have a duck or two, along with other critters of the woods if they needed shelter or care.Donald is survived by the love of his life, Yvonne Brackett of Shapleigh; his children Clifford Brackett of Dayton, Robert Brackett and wife Darlene of Springvale, Crystal McCurdy and husband Lee of Dayton, Eric Brackett of Kennebunk, Sabrina Spaulding and husband Timothy of Waterboro, foster sons Donald Schwab and wife Channon of Dayton and Thomas Harrington and wife Laura of Limerick; a brother Greg Brackett of Saco; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Words of remembrance will be shared 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022 followed by a period of visitation until 3 p.m. at Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St. Alfred, ME. All attendees are asked to wear a mask while in the building. Interment will be in the spring. Arrangements are entrusted to Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St, Alfred.
