Robert George Munster

CABARETE, Dominican Republic – Robert Munster died of heart failure while surfing at a favorite beach. He was born on Sept. 29, 1948, in Miami, Fla., to William and Geraldine Munster. He grew up in Portland and Falmouth, graduating from high school in Hollywood, Fla. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. He received degrees in occupational therapy, counseling, and was a certified Cranial Sacral Therapist. A traveling OT, Bob worked throughout the U.S. in clinics, nursing homes and schools. A therapist for the Upledger Institute, Bob treated people worldwide, including dolphin therapy in the Bahamas, and therapy in the lagoons of Iceland. He returned to Maine and fulfilled his dream of building his own home and clinic called Hands on Therapy. He was a much-loved holistic healer whose clients regained mobility and felt great about themselves.

Bob surfed worldwide, competing in many tournaments. An amazing gardener and forager of edible wild plants and mushrooms, Bob made and shared delicious meals. In 2009, he retired to the Dominican Republic and worked part time in clinics, did travel writing, and wrote three books on his unusual life. He returned to Maine every summer and traveled the country spending quality time with his beloved grandchildren, family and friends.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Sean) Edwards, his son, Paul Munster; two brothers, James (Karen) and David Munster, three sisters, Joan (Bill) Martin, Laura (Scott) Zeidler, Elizabeth (Mark) Manduca; four grandchildren; 15 nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 6 in Old Orchard Beach.
