Catherine Swett

LIMERICK — Catherine “Kitty” Swett, 86, of Limerick, Maine, died on Feb. 7, 2022, at home due to complications following recent surgery.

She was born on Jan. 19, 1936, to John F. and Mildred (Knack) Burba of Biddeford. Growing up on Thatcher Brook, a tributary to the Saco River, she spent her summers swimming and her winters skating. She participated in many activities including basketball, yearbook, and glee club before graduating as valedictorian from St. Joseph’s High School in 1953.

After starting a family in Connecticut, she eventually returned to Maine where she met Maurice Ray Swett Jr., and the two were married for 26 years.

A longtime resident of Limerick, Kitty was well known from her time working at the Limerick Supermarket as well as her involvement in the community. She was a member of the Massabesic Lions Club and could often be found at the Monday night bingo events. She also enjoyed playing cards and, in later years, she played bridge at the Trafton Senior Center.

Kitty had a fondness for the ocean and looked forward to scenic drives down the coast. She loved meeting new people and socializing almost as much as she loved a good cup of coffee, a delicious meal, and a delightful book. Most importantly, she had a kind and generous heart especially when it came to her children, grandchildren, and animals.

She is survived by: her children, Cynthia Swett and David Swett; and her grandchildren, Lauren Swett and Tyler Swett and his wife, Vanessa.

A private burial will take place in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094.
