Robert Burns Purvis

DADE CITY, Fla. – Robert Burns Purvis, 87, formerly from Saco, Maine passed away March 15, 2022 surrounded by his family. Born on July 7, 1934 to George and Vaughn Purvis in New Brunswick, Canada.

He moved to Maine with his family in 1946 and eventually settled in Saco where he built his own home with his dad. Bob graduated from Thornton Academy and went through an apprentice program to become a plumber until he partnered with his brother, Clifford Purvis, to purchase Saco Brick Company until 1969. He then worked as a pipefitter until he retired in 1996. Bob and his wife, Ann, enjoyed spending their winters at their Florida home and summers at Swan Pond in Lyman.

He was predeceased by his son, Steven. Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ann Purvis; his daughter and son-in-law Kellie and Kevin McNary, their three children and five grandchildren; Bob’s brother and his wife, Clifford and Joyce and nephews Eric and Kirk Purvis and their families; brother-in-law, Eugene Pierce; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert had a work hard/play hard attitude towards life. Whether you were a friend for five minutes or 50 years Bob was always willing to help. You could easily find Bob starting off every morning at a coffee shop in Maine or Florida enjoying the company of his friends. And when it was time to play; boating, snowmobiling, traveling, and motorcycling were just a few of the activities he shared with his family and friends.

This quiet, intense, generous, energetic man will be missed by all the lives he’s touched throughout his wonderful life.

Visiting hours will be at Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco on Sunday, April 3 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Graveside service will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, 293 Beach St., Saco on Monday, April 4 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Burt Howe officiating.
