Mona J. Gardner

WINDHAM – Mona J. Gardner, 90, of Portsmouth, N.H., and longtime former resident of Windham and Hartford, died on July 29, 2022, at a Portsmouth health care facility. She was born in Skowhegan, on June 24, 1932, the daughter of the late Frank A. and Angeline S. (Cronk) Orr Cunningham.

Mona was raised in Skowhegan and Bingham and graduating from Bingham High School in 1952.

She married Kenneth Richard Gardner, Dec. 24, 1952. Soon after they moved to Windham, where they raised their two children.

Mrs. Gardner worked at the Windham School lunch program from 1965 until 1979. She also worked for three years at Woolco Department Store, Angelone’s Pizza for three years and eight years at McDonalds Restaurant before retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Windham Evangeline of the Order of the Eastern Star # 167 and attended church at the North Windham Union Church.

She was a Girl Scout Leader in Windham for many years during her spare time. After living in Windham for 39 years she moved to Bear Pond in Hartford, ME, where she lived during the spring, summer and fall, and spent the winter months in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Mona was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Spending time with her family gave her much joy and happiness. Being around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her a lot of smiles and fond memories. Mona enjoyed traveling, her flower gardens, doing crafts and hobbies. Within the last five years she became an amazing watercolor artist. She loved playing cards with her friends and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Mark R. Gardner, and his wife, Judi, of Kittery; daughter, June B. Conley, and her husband, Daniel, of Crestview, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Melinda J. Fulton, Mark R. Gardner, Nahum M. Ronfeldt, Saul E. Gardner, Jennifer A. Walker, Andrea P. Coffman, Sarah J. Butler and Gregory A. Hutchinson; seventeen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth R. Gardner of 56 years; brother Harley Orr; two sisters, Nadine Vigue and Arlene Fortin.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 10, from 5-7 p.m., at Dolby, Blais, Segee Funeral Home, 434 River Road, Windham. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 11, at 10:30 a.m., followed by graveside service at Arlington Cemetery Windham.

A celebration of life will be held at The Little Meeting House in North Windham.
