WATERBORO – Mary J. Libby, 65, beloved wife and mother, was surrounded in love by her family, passed on August 8, 2022, at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

Mary was born on Dec. 24, 1956, an early Christmas blessing, for her parents, Peter E. and Catherine (Connolly) MacInnis, at St. Margaret’s hospital in Dorchester, Mass. She was raised in Melrose, Mass. and graduated from Melrose High School.

For her entire life, Mary spent her summers in Maine at the two cottages owned by her family on Little Ossipee Lake. This is where she met the love of her life and soul mate Mike. Once she married Mike she moved to Maine and has been a proud resident ever since. This is where she had her son, Aaron. She loved Aaron very much; he was her pride and joy and as she would always say, “The apple of her eye.” Mary loved her family and friends more than anything in the world. She always looked forward to any time or event that she could spend with them chatting.

Mary’s heart was devoted to her family and being a homemaker. She worked many jobs over the years, such as operating telephones at the Mass General, cooking for the Brothers in Alfred and working at the family farm for many years. She loved making donuts and referred to herself and the other girls in the kitchen as ” the donut dollys.” Mary enjoyed talking and getting to know the customers; her voice carried and sometimes we could even hear her out in the fields.

She loved sitting around her kitchen table and having a cup of coffee listening and sharing in the conversation with family and friends. The consummate host, she would always ask if you would like something to eat or drink. As she was saying bye to family or friends, she would always follow you out of the door and on several occasions even down the dirt road waving as they drove off.

Mary loved her garden and her flowers and loved to “putt around the yard.” She referred to gardening as her therapy and always had a yard (and house) filled with vibrant, colorful plants and flowers.

She had many cats over the years that she loved very much and always said pets make a house a home.

Mary loved taking boat rides on the lake with her family and friends. Cruising on the lake was fun, but she loved to go fast! She often reminisced about her summers on the lake as a child and young adult; wishing that the house at the boat launch was still a restaurant as it once had been so that we could go to dinner and get ice cream by boat.

Mary never knew a stranger and was a friend to all. She loved Life.

She loved playing cards with her family and friends and the laughs that went along with it-especially royal rummy and spades where she would hope for a Boston hand! One of her favorite hobbies was going to stores and shopping. She also loved watching old mysteries, including “Inspector Poirot” and “Father Brown”.

Mary was so looking forward to becoming a Nana and loved her unborn grandbaby so much already. She will be our Northern Star and watch over us all.

Mary is survived by the love of her life, husband, Michael Libby; her pride and joy and the apple of her eye, son, Aaron Libby, her daughter-in-law whom she loved as her own, Allison Libby; her unborn grandbaby, her three cats, Manny, Louis and Homer, her loving and devoted brothers Peter MacInnis, Eddie MacInnis and his wife Lisa; her in-laws Donald and Grace Libby; sister-in-law, Kathy Dubois, brother-in-law, Randolph Libby and wife, Berniece, brother-in law, Frank Libby and his wife, Candace, brother-in-law, Donald Libby, Jr. and his wife; and many nieces, nephews; cousins; friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Peter E. MacInnis and Catherine A. MacInnis; and her sister-in-law, Susan E. MacInnis.

Friends may call on Sunday, August 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Autumn Green, 47 Oak St., Alfred. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 19 Dora Lane, Limerick.
