Ethel Rapp

BIDDEFORD — Ethel M. Barley McCurry Rapp, 84, of Biddeford, Maine, passed away Aug. 19, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

Ethel was born on March 18, 1938, in Newburgh, New York, to John and Ethel (McCauley) Barley. Ethel was known by her friends as Maddy. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Ethel worked in the service industry where she tended bar and waitressed for many years. She enjoyed talking to all of her family by phone when she lived in different places. She looked forward to each and every phone call. She was a fun-loving person who enjoyed making jokes and talking with everyone she met. She lit up every room that she entered. Ethel enjoyed gambling in any capacity. She was always up for a trip to the casino. She also could be found playing BINGO, playing cards or scratching lottery tickets. She was a past member of the Eagles and AMVETS. She made many life long friends there, and loved all of them. Ethel also loved to travel. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Ethel is predeceased by: her parents, John and Ethel Barley; brothers, John Barley and Walter Barley; sisters, Maxine Barley, Edith Rylant, and Sally Taylor; son, Jeffrey T. McCurry; and granddaughter, Jennifer (McCurry) Drapeau.

She is survived by: her son, John A. McCurry Jr. and his wife Robin of Biddeford, Maine; son, Timothy McCurry and his wife Sheila of Biddeford, Maine; daughter, Julia McCurry of Biddeford, Maine; son, Michael McCurry and his wife LaDonna of Biddeford, Maine: brothers, Jim Barley and Richard Barley, both of Newburgh, New York; sister, Gladys Sanders of Avon Park, Florida; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren, plus 1 soon to arrive to make 16.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St, Biddeford, ME 04005. A funeral service outside of mass will take place at Hope Memorial Chapel at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022. Committal to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Biddeford.
