A free workshop on vermicomposting will be held at Scarborough Public Library at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8.

Mark Follansbee, a Scarborough toxicologist and environmental scientist, will lead the class about using worms to convert organic waste into fertilizer. He is the founder of WormMainea and has been vermicomposting for over 20 years, according to his website, wormmainea.com. Follansbee will teach attendees how to build an inexpensive worm bin, discuss feeding and how to harvest, and will share a recipe for vermicompost “tea.”

The event is free; to register, visit scarboroughlibrary.org and go to the Events page.
