BIDDEFORD — As Biddeford AMVETS Post 1 prepares for another breakfast season, the group is sending thanks to all who support the effort and has released their schedule for their popular breakfast meals starting Sept. 18.

“We’re sending  our most sincere thanks to all our patrons who made last breakfast season such a great success,” said Gene Foster.

How successful have they been? As a result of last season’s breakfasts, AMVETS Post 1 was able to give back to the community with multiple donations, members said — including a $500 Biddeford High School Scholarship; $900 to the Biddeford Food Pantry, $500 to  Biddeford High School Odyssey of the Mind; $600 to Toys to Tots; $800 to Biddeford In-A-Pinch Non-Food Pantry; $700 to  Biddeford Veterans Career House (VoA) and $900 to the  AMVETS White Clover Fund.

As well as the Sunday Sept. 18 breakfast, which is  served 8 to 11 a.m., breakfasts are also set for Oct. 16, Nov. 13 and Dec 18.  January through April repasts are yet to be scheduled, organizers said. The public breakfasts take place at Amvets Post 1, 147 Alfred St.

Organizers say the kitchen breakfast crew including Grillmaster Dickie Thibodeau, Meat and Potato man Paul Thibodeau, Toastmaster Robert Bourgault, Expediter Jim Thibodeau, and Jack o’ the Dust Lionel Lamontagne are ready to get to work as are servers from the AMVETs Ladies’ Auxiliary.

The group offered thanks to Scott Cochran of Biddeford Painting, who generously paid for all the supplies needed for one breakfast.

“Post 1 anticipates to at least repeat, if not surpass last year’s breakfast donations, but we can only do this with continued community support,” organizers said. “To that end, if you’re looking for a great breakfast deal, look no further than Post 1. You choose from a full menu. Breakfasts are made kitchen-fresh as you ordered and served right to your table. Coffee is still complimentary.”

For those in a hurry, the kitchen also packs breakfast to go.
