Clement Leon Voyer Jr.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – On Sept. 8, 2022, Clement Leon Voyer, Jr. passed away after struggling with ALS. He was born to Clement and Julia Voyer on Feb. 3, 1940 in Portland.

After graduating from Portland High School, Clement joined the U.S. Army. He led his Armored Tank Division and was later deployed in the conflict known as the Panama Canal Crisis.

After his military service, Clement earned a bachelor’s in history from the University of Southern Maine and was hired by New England Telephone where he was a manager until his retirement in the mid 1990s. Upon his retirement he went to work for Key Bank.

In 1970, Clement married Loretta Rand. They purchased a home on Peaks Island where they raised six children. In 2000, Loretta passed away after a battle with cancer.

Clement was a pillar of the Peaks Island community. He was a member of Lions Club, a docent at the 5th Maine, and was in the Coast Guard Reserve. He was also know for his love of history, chess and song – especially the oldies.

In 2005, Clement married Mary Cobb. They lived on Peaks until moving to Gorham in 2009, and finally to Shelton, Conn. in 2018. At this time they joined Trinity Baptist Church. Clement loved his Savior Jesus Christ and it showed in who he was and all he did.

Clement was predeceased by his first wife; his parents; and two brothers.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Voyer of Shelton, Conn.; his children, Clement L. Voyer III “Skip” and his wife, Melissa, of Huntersville, N.C., Andrea Voyer and her husband, Jason Czarnezski, of Stockholm, Sweden and Coventry, Conn., Reverend Matthew Voyer and his wife, Heather, of Delta, Ohio, Andrew Voyer of Hillsboro, Texas, Robert Voyer and his wife, Emilie, of Seattle, Wash., Christine Voyer-Quinn and her husband, Stanley Quinn, of Gorham, David Cobb of Shelton, Conn., Kimberly Bensen of Shelton, Conn., and Heather Lutz and her husband, Thomas, of Independence, Minn. He is also survived by his sister, Marlene Stevens, of South Portland; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

An Internment service will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
